There have been rumours for a while now that Ghost Rider will appear in the upcoming fourth season of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., but that was made official at the show’s Comic-Con panel.
However, instead of using the Johnny Blaze version from the movies, Marvel’s Ghost Rider will be Robbie Reyes, a relatively new character who actually drives a muscle car rather than a motorbike. Gabriel Luna (True Detective) has been cast in role, and more details about what we should expect from this take will no doubt be revealed over the coming months.
Many fans have responded to the announcement with disappointment, especially as they were hoping to see the classic Ghost Rider on Netflix or in a movie. There’s nothing to say that can’t still happen though, and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. could do with a bit of a shake up!
“Season 4 will unquestionably be the series’ biggest, most ambitious story yet, and it all begins with the introduction of one of our greatest legacy characters in Ghost Rider,” said Head of Marvel Television and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. executive producer, Jeph Loeb earlier today. “When the Spirit of Vengeance rides into S.H.I.E.L.D., it’ll change everything.”
Along with a brief teaser video, Marvel has released a couple of posters, a picture of Luna, and even a photo of the car this version of Ghost Rider will drive into battle in the series.
