See an almost unrecognisable Gary Oldman as Winston Churchill in Joe Wright’s Darkest Hour

Joe Wright’s work was most recently seen in the Nosedive episode of Charlie Brooker’s Black Mirror. There’s a very different, and far more real dystopia looming in his next work, the World War II drama Darkest Hour.

Gary Oldman leads the film as Sir Winston Churchill, and the sparse synopsis carries much in its brevity. Never has so much been inferred by so few words, etc.

Winston Churchill leads a charge against Hitler’s army in the early days of World War II.

The film has a sterling cast including Lily James, Ben Mendelsohn, John Hurt and Kristin Scott Thomas. Wright is directing a screenplay from BAFTA-winning Anthony McCarten whose last produced work was The Theory of Everything.

Here’s the first image Gary Oldman (honestly…) as Winston Churchill as the movie enters production.
