With season six of Game of Thrones right around the corner, a new batch of magazine covers have been revealed focusing on the show’s female leads. Of course, these covers are unlikely to distract the majority of fans from the fact that we’re still no closer to learning about the fate of a certain someone, even if Kit Harington did recently confirm that he’ll be back.

What’s the deal with Jon? Well, we’re going to find out on April 24th, the official premiere date for Games of Thrones season six (for those of you in the UK, that means it will most likely reach Sky Atlantic around the 25th). This year’s episodes are perhaps the most exciting yet, especially as the TV series has now overtaken George R.R. Martin’s novel.

“The women are rocking this season — and I’m not just saying that because they’re on your cover,” HBO programming president Michael Lombardo tells Entertainment Weekly in a new interview about the show. “Daenerys (Emilia Clarke) always does, but also Brienne (Gwendoline Christie), Arya (Maisie Williams), Sansa (Sophie Turner), Cersei (Lena Headey), Margaery (Natalie Dormer), and other characters too, like Yara (Gemma Whelan). They power this season. It’s organic to the storytelling, yet a radical shift. It’s the women that are the hope that we’re watching as the chess pieces move this season, and it’s very exciting.”

In the past, Game of Thrones has stuck to the source material fairly closely, but season six will shake things up in a major way by adapting material which Martin has not yet published.
