Released to an almost euphoric reception back in the summer of 2015, Mad
Speaking about the film and the prospects of a Furiosa-led prequel whilst promoting her new film Atomic Blonde, star Charlize Theron has been chatting to Variety about her excitement about potentially returning to the shaven-headed character and says that it may become a reality much quicker than expected.
In an interview with Variety, Theron said:
“I’d love to. There were three scripts. They were written as backstories to Max’s character and to Furiosa’s character. But at the end of the day, this thing lives and breathes with [director] George [Miller]. I think Warner Bros. knows that. We are all waiting for him to show us the way.”
In addition to Furiosa/Mad Max, Theron also spoke about her recent villainous turn in this summer’s Fast & Furious 8 (aka The Fate of the Furious) but as of yet she is unsure as to whether she will be back for part 9 alongside the likes of Vin Diesel, Jason Statham, Michelle Rodriguez and Dwayne Johnson, adding:
“I don’t know. I have no idea if they’ll have me back. Look, I love everybody at Universal. We’re going to have conversations. We’ll see where it goes.”
Directed by George Miller, Mad Max: Fury Road grossed around $379million worldwide and co-starred Tom Hardy as Max as well as Nicholas Hoult, Riley Keough, Zoe Kravitz, Rosie Huntington-Whitley, Abbey Lee and Hugh Keays-Byrne.
Fast 8 has so far grossed $1.238 at the global box office and is set for Blu-ray, 4K and DVD release in the UK later this year.
