The Judge

Warner Bros. have released the first trailer for The Judge, the upcoming thriller and family drama which sees Iron Man star Robert Downey Jr. as a successful defence attorney who ends up battling it out with Fargo’s Billy Bob Thornton (in the courtroom) after he returns home for his mother’s funeral.

It’s then that he discovers that his estranged father (Robert Duvall), the town’s judge who now suffers from Alzheimer’s, has been accused of murder and is set to stand trial for the crime.

David Dobkin is directing the movie which marks the first project from Robert Downey Jr. and his wife/producing partner Susan Downey’s production company. The Judge is big departure for Dobkin compared to his previous work, and it looks a lot different to the likes of Fred Claus and Wedding Crashers!

Though there are some glimmers of humour in this first trailer, it’s possible that The Judge could be an awards contender next year as it actually tackles a lot of interesting and serious subjects. Robert Downey Jr. will next be seen in Chef, and will follow this movie with Joss Whedon’s Avengers: Age of Ultron.
