No, it wasn’t Avatar: The animated series, it was The Smurfs and the short cartoons, imported from Belgium, told various small tales about these creatures being hunted by the gloriously named Gargamel and his cat, Azrael while living and mainly singing in the woods.
Being a recongisable property, redolent with nostalgia, there was a collective absence of jaw drop when the movie adaptation was announced, and today UGO have the first look at the CG rendering of Genericy Smurf.
Looks pretty good, but there’s not a lot of improvement to be made, apart from changing the god-awful theme tune…
Oh nooooooooooo, a smufs movie!!!

I'm sorry I am not laughing at you, but at the fact that there is anyone on the planet that didn't grow up with the Smurfs cause we had them here in the U.S., and by the look of your screen shot, it's like some flash from the past, like from outer space where they haven't gotten the transmission, and it just reached your planet. lol
oooh lol I'm still crackin up… forgive but here look at what we U S grew up with and you could see them better even with our old sets…

…but I do get it, a Smurf movie. Cool. The kids will love it, but hmm, the Smurf are kinda ol'skool, wonder if they'd take to them today?

I remember the Smurfs from a long time ago and I'm thinking that the picture above means we'll see thousands of the little blue people running around in the real world – I think it's a mix of live action and CG like Garfield (which is the best comparison I can find). Wonder who'll play Gargamel – Alan Rickman is the most obvious choice but I wonder…
