Sky has unveiled the first look at its upcoming prestige drama ‘Amadeus,’ a bold five-part reimagining of Peter Shaffer’s award-winning stage play. The series stars Will Sharpe (Giri/Haji, The White Lotus) as the genius and self-destructive Wolfgang ‘Amadeus’ Mozart, Paul Bettany (WandaVision, A Very British Scandal) as his envious rival Antonio Salieri, and Gabrielle Creevy (In My Skin, Black Doves) as Mozart’s fiercely loyal wife Constanze Weber.

Adapted by Joe Barton (Black Doves, Giri/Haji, The Lazarus Project), ‘Amadeus’ explores the meteoric rise and tragic downfall of one of history’s most iconic composers — and rockstar virtuoso of the 18th century.

Set in bustling 18th-century Vienna, the story follows a 25-year-old Mozart, no longer a child prodigy but a man driven by ambition, brilliance, and self-destructive impulses. His arrival brings him into the orbit of two pivotal figures: his future wife Constanze, who becomes both his anchor and fiercest advocate, and devoutly religious court composer Antonio Salieri, who quickly perceives Mozart’s divine gift as a personal affront.

As Mozart’s talent continues to flourish despite scandal, scepticism and his own demons, Salieri’s admiration curdles into obsession. What begins as professional rivalry soon transforms into a decades-long battle, culminating in Salieri’s infamous confession of murder and his attempt to bind himself to Mozart’s legacy forever.

With sweeping period detail and a psychological edge, the series promises a contemporary lens on themes of genius, jealousy and immortality.

‘Amadeus’ will launch later this year on Sky and the streaming service NOW.
