Production on The Wolverine is well underway, and after getting our first look at Viper on the set yesterday, alongside Hugh Jackman, we’ve now got our first glimpse of another of the film’s villains in the form of the Silver Samurai, as well as a look at our hero’s claws out and ready for action (albeit on his stunt double, Daniel Stevens).

After a bit of a long road to production, with James Mangold (Walk the Line) finally boarding the project at the helm last year, things are looking excellent for what promises to be one of next year’s biggest blockbusters.

“Based on the celebrated comic book arc, The Wolverine finds Logan, the eternal warrior and outsider, in Japan. There, samurai steel will clash with adamantium claw as Logan confronts a mysterious figure from his past in an epic battle that will leave him forever changed.”

Glimpsed for the first time here is Will Yun Lee, who plays the main antagonist, Kenuichio Harada / the Silver Samurai.

Jackman and Lee star alongside a promising cast, headed up by the great Hiroyuki Sanada, Rila Fukushima, Tao Okamoto, Brian Tee, Svetlana Khodchenkova, and Hal Yamanouchi, with Mangold directing from a script by Christopher McQuarrie (The Usual Suspects, Jack Reacher) and Mark Bomback (Live Free or Die Hard).

The Wolverine is set for release in the UK and US on 26th July, 2013, positioning it as one of the biggest films of the summer, and no doubt of the entire year. Whilst we eagerly await more, here are the new set photos, which you can click to enlarge.
