We got a great first look at the upcoming, Dark Horse, written directed by indie auteur Todd Solondz, at the end of last month, and they gave us a taste of what looks to be a pretty dark and excellent film from him.

We now have the first short clip from the film and a nice new poster to go with it, courtesy of /Film and IMP Awards respectively, ahead of its premiere at Venice Film Festival next month.

The film sees thirtysomething Abe (Jordan Gelber) stuck in arrested development, living with his parents (Mia Farrow and Christopher Walken), with a hobby of collecting toys. In order to lose his status as the dark horse of the family, he begins a relationship with Miranda (Selma Blair), who has moved back home after seeing her literary and academic career fail.

This first clip we get is very short, showing Abe and Miranda in what looks to be Miranda’s bedroom, some way into their new relationship. It isn’t long, but already it cements the darkness we can expect from Dark Horse as a black comedy, and it’s something good to look forward to. (N.B. You may need to turn your speakers up, because the clip is quite quiet. And you may think nothing’s happening at first, but that’s only because neither of them move until half-way through the clip.)

The poster is a great close-up of Gelber’s chest/neck, sporting a pink polo shirt, a ‘Dark Horse’ necklace/bling, and some chest hair peeking its way through the unbuttoned polo shirt. Ridiculous, sure, but amusingly memorable too. Without further ado, here they both are.
