Final Fantasy XIIISquare’s latest version of its epic RPG has debuted to embarassing sales figures in Japan.

The Xbox 360 version of Final Fantasy XIII sold only 22,579 copies in its first week and failed to break the Top 20.

Admittedly, the PS3 version of the game has been on sale for over a year, and with few extra features (English speech and an Easy mode) it’s unsurprising there’s a distinct lack of appetite overseas.

Still, it’s a worrying sign for the developer that the franchise’s popularity is starting to wane amidst a whole host of competitors (Monster Hunter and WoW). They’ve also had to scrap DLC plans for the RPG.
