Marc Webb’s The Amazing Spider-Man is one of the most highly anticipated films of 2012, and over the summer we saw some great promotion for it with the awesome first teaser trailer being one of the highlights.
With thanks to ComingSoon.net for the tip-off, Emma Stone was the guest host of Saturday Night Live for the second time at the weekend, and her appearance on the show saw a great Spider-Man intro between her, SNL-regular Andy Samberg, and none other than the new superhero himself, Andrew Garfield.
The lovely-as-ever Stone talks about how great Gwen Stacey’s going to be in the film – and how Mary Jane Watson pales in comparison – and then drops down Samberg in the Spidey suit, complete with a home-made webslinger and script to audition for the part. As Stone then reminds him, the role has of course already been taken, and on comes Garfield.
Samberg is a lot of fun in this, so if you have a few minutes, it’s definitely worth checking out. He pokes a bit of fun at what a lot of people were first thinking – that the new film isn’t necessary – which I think the majority of people have now changed their minds about, myself definitely included, because The Amazing Spider-Man, due out on 4th July next year, is going to be immense.
Samberg also gets in a couple of great jabs at Garfield, saying how the co-creator of Facebook can’t just come on stage, as well a brilliant comment on his British nationality (I won’t spoil it for you, but it’s absolutely genius).
The musical guests for the night were the ridiculously brilliant Coldplay, and I’ve taken the liberty of putting the promo for the episode beneath the Stone/Garfield/Samberg video, and beneath that Coldplay’s performance of Paradise off their new record, Mylo Xyloto. If you’ve not picked it up yet, I’d recommend doing so as soon as humanly possible; it is so damn good.
