Arguably the most anticipated movie of the month, Neill Blomkamp’s Elysium sees the director returning to the director’s chair for the second time, following his impressive debut in 2009 with District 9.
Blomkamp’s sci-fi/action blockbuster has long been on the radar as one of the season’s must-see movies, and the footage already released certainly cements that status – one need only watch the latest extended trailer to be persuaded of that.
With the film heading into US cinemas this coming Friday, Sony have released a new featurette, via Yahoo Movies, giving us a look at some of the tech featured in the film.
The impoverished inhabitants of a ruined planet Earth fight to join the safe and pristine living conditions of the space station Elysium, where only the wealthy and healthy reside. In need of medical treatment only available on Elysium, one resident of the planet’s slums attempts to reach the space station at any cost, and his actions could offset the entire balance of haves and have-nots.
Matt Damon takes centre stage for Blomkamp this time around, with the writer-director also reuniting with Sharlto Copley following District 9. Jodie Foster completes the leading trio, with William Fichtner, Diego Luna, Alice Braga, and Faran Tahir joining them.
Blomkamp is writing from his own script, and has Simon Kinberg (X-Men: First Class, Sherlock Holmes) producing.
Elysium will be released in regular and IMAX cinemas this Friday, August 9th, in the US, ahead of its UK release date later in the month on 21st August.
