Tom Hooper’s Les Misérables is one of the most anticipated films of the year, with the incredible first trailer debuting back in May to brilliant responses. The adaptation of the original novel and its subsequent musical is set to feature the cast singing live on the set, rather than recording in a studio, and if Anne Hathaway’s performance of I Dreamed a Dream in the trailer is anything to go by, it’s going to be immense.

We saw a new image of the film last month of Hathaway opposite Hugh Jackman, and now the film has debuted a new video from the set (recorded some time ago, of course), with Eddie Redmayne playing host for the camera.

“Set against the backdrop of 19th-century France, Les Misérables tells an enthralling story of broken dreams and unrequited love, passion, sacrifice and redemption—a timeless testament to the survival of the human spirit. Jackman plays ex-prisoner Jean Valjean, hunted for decades by the ruthless policeman Javert (Crowe) after he breaks parole. When Valjean agrees to care for factory worker Fantine’s (Hathaway) young daughter, Cosette, their lives change forever.”

Hathaway, Jackman, and Redmayne are joined by an impressive cast, headed up by Russell Crowe, Amanda Seyfried, Sacha Baron Cohen, Samantha Barks, and Helena Bonham Carter.

Hooper’s follow-up to the Oscar winner The King’s Speech sees him directing from a script by William Nicholson (Gladiator, Shadowlands), who adapts the original classic novel of the same name by Victor Hugo and the world-famous stage musical.

Les Misérables will be released on 14th December in the US, and will come to the UK early in the New Year on 11th January, 2013, a date which I cannot wait for. The film has tremendous talent on both sides of the camera, and the buzz seems to be very much deserving as we head into the awards season. For now, enjoy a bloodied Redmayne on the set, on the last day of filming on the barricades. Hugh Jackman sent out his Mother’s Day wishes from the set a few months back, and here’s to hoping we have more to come with all the cast.
