In the era of nostalgia remarks/sequels, Eddie Murphy has also revived his career. With production well underway on the sequel to ‘Coming to America 2’, Murphy has also confirmed that ‘Beverly Hills Cop 4’ is his next project.
During an interview with Collider, Murphy confirmed that once Coming to America 2 is done and dusted, the new instalment in the Beverly Hills franchise would be his next project before he heads back to stand-up comedy.
“Yeah, that [BHC4] is what we’re doing after ‘Coming to America 2′. We’re doing ‘Beverly Hills Cop’ and then the plan is to get back on stage and do stand-up. That’s what I’ll be doing mostly is stand-up. These movies and ‘Saturday Night Live’ it’s kind of like…I’m looking at it as a bookend. If I decided I wanted to stay on the couch forever, I ended it on a funny note.”

Having been in development on and off over the past 10 years, ideas for the fourth film in the franchise has been sparse but Brett Ratner was believed to be attached to direct at one stage. Another avenue that was played with was the idea of a TV series which followed the son of Murphy’s character, Axel Foley.
The original 1984 action comedy shot Murphy to stardom when he played Foley, a street-smart Detroit cop who visits Beverly Hills, California to solve the murder of his best friend. The film also starred Judge Reinhold, John Ashton, Ronny Cox, Lisa Eilbacher, Steven Berkoff and Jonathan Banks appear in supporting roles.
