With Part 1 of Denis Villeneuve’s of Dune only in cinemas for a number of days, Legendary Entertainment has given the green light for part 2.

Director, producer and co-screenwriter Denis Villeneuve will be returning for the project which is slated for an October 23rd 2023 theatrical release. According to reports, a theatrical release was a key point in negotiations between Legendary Entertainment and distributor Warner Bros. A day-and-date HBO Max release plan was thrown off the table.

“I just received news from Legendary that we are officially moving forward with Dune: Part Two,” Villeneuve said. “It was a dream of mine to adapt Frank Herbert’s Dune, and I have the fans, the cast, and crew, Legendary and Warner Bros. to thank for supporting this dream. This is only the beginning.”

The reboot of Frank Herbert’s iconic novel earned $223 Million at the Global Box Office on its opening weekend. Numbers for its HBO Max viewing have yet to be released.
