The confirmation just tweeted by the Star Wars twitter account that Donald Glover has been cast as a youthful Lando Calrissian in the Chris Lord and Phil Miller directed Han Solo spin off movie will come as welcome news, but little surprise.
Long has the actor and musician been linked with the project, not least because the his casting is sure to bring about some sort of osmosis-driven geekgasm. Lord and Miller said on StarWars.com,
These are big shoes to fill, and an even bigger cape, and this one fits him perfectly, which will save us money on alteration
The site also confirms more about the film’s plot than we’ve seen before, that it will be ‘bringing two iconic Star Wars characters back to the big screen, but at a time in their lives previously unexplored. This new film depicts Lando in his formative years as a scoundrel on the rise in the galaxy’s underworld’.
Glover will join Alden Ehrenreich in the film, and we eagerly await the casting of the female lead we heard about recently.
Here’s the tweet,
