If you’re a fan of Benedict Cumberbatch, then do we have a treat for you! In the gallery below, not only will you find a stunning new piece of concept art for Marvel’s Doctor Strange, but also the first official image from the highly anticipated next series of BBC’s Sherlock.
Talking about his role as the Sorcerer Supreme in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the actor actually compared that role to the present day Sherlock Holmes he also plays. “The two men are intelligent. That’s it. Stephen Strange is a lover, he’s a materialist, he’s arrogant, but he’s got a great sense of humour. There are smatterings of the same colours that Sherlock has, but he’s not on the spectrum.” So, in other words, don’t expect a cookie cutter performance!
Talking of Sherlock, the show’s fourth series airs early next year, and this first look shows Cumberbatch posing alongside a bloodhound. However, could we be about to see the detective’s small screen swan song? “I don’t know how long we can keep it going,” teases Steven Moffat. “I’m personally willing but I’m hardly the main draw. I would be moderately surprised if this was the last time we ever made this show. But it absolutely could be.”
If that does end up being the case, at least we know that Cumberbatch has a bright future ahead as a Marvel superhero. Chances are that he’ll next appear in Avengers: Infinity War, but before we get too far ahead of ourselves, Doctor Strange is released this October.
