Discussion: Which is Best Plasma, LCD or CRT?

8

Retro TVIn the past 3 years the evolution of the television has significantly changed the way we watch films. Manufacturers no longer make the CRT sets, video players and cassette are only found in charity shops and for a true cinema experience, no home is complete without a surround system. The future is HD, flat screen, 5.1 Audio and multichannel. But what type of TV is the best? There are many online discussions on this very subject and we at HeyUGuys want to hear from you.

If you, a family member or friend have recently purchased a new TV tell what brand and model and why it’s been a great purchase or a real Turkey.

We want to hear your experiences so let us know in the comments below. Best entries get some new batteries for your remote control or last week’s Radio Times 😉

  3. I've had my Toshiba WLT 58 (geeky that i still remember the model number!) now for about 3.5 years. I love it but it's become too small and I'm looking to upgrade. The issue is where do I start?

Usually I'll buy Stuff magazine or T3 and have a look in the back where they have their top 10 and i'll go from there. With the invention of HD coming along, it's completely changed the way in which we watch television and it'll no doubt change again with this like 3d coming along which we'll probably start to see more of in the next 10 or 20 years.

But that doesn't help with my issue of which TV to get now?! 🙂

  4. Plasma all the way, if you want to most perfect picture you have to go for the Pioneer Kuro TV's, a bit pricey but you won't get a better picture.
I have a HD Ready Plasma and it beats all Full HD LCD sets i've seen, that with Surround sound through a proper set up and it's as good as any cinema experience if you don't mind annoying the neighbours by turning it up to 11

  5. I'll second the plasma recommendation all the way. I do think that the Kuro are very good as no other plasma (or LCD) can get clost their black levels, however the amount of video noise can be a big problem. That is why I got the Panasonic TH46PZ85 last year for the bargain price of £12,000 with a 5 year warrenty which was about £1k cheaper than the price of the Kuro at the time.

Oh and I prefer to watch a DVD/BD at home on my system to going to the cinema. No pocorn bouncing off the back of my head or incontinent people getting in the way at a crucial moment – and no I don't mind annoying the neighbours as mine is always on 11 🙂

  6. I've heard LED is going to be the next technology to take over this market?

My personal preference at the moment is HD 1080p LCD, having said that I've never owned a plasma – am I missing out?!

  7. The flat panel screens enable your TV to be positioned on a wall bracket or a cantilever Tv stand for that ultra cool modern look, for me that is reason enough to go for a flat panel television.
