Die Hard 5 on the Cusp of a Green Light?

5

Bruce Willis has been chatting to MTV at Comic-Con (he has both The Expendables and Red there) and he claims that production on Die Hard 5 is  “imminent”. Oh dear.

Surely I’m not alone in thinking it’s time to put this franchise to bed? Live Free or Die Hard was for me, a tired-looking action film, which bore little resemblance to the previous films in the series and didn’t do anything to really distinguish itself as a fun, stand-alone flick (I mean, they introduced this supposed iconic character by having him hiding in the back seat of his daughter’s boyfriend’s car, for god sake!)

Willis does mention, however, that he would be up for doing an Unbreakable sequel. This seems to me like the logical choice over another Die Hard. His character in Unbreakable has at least a potentially interesting arc for the audience to follow. What could you with McClane again except have him shot the bad guys and deliver to same old quips.

What are your thoughts?

  1. I have so much love for John Mclane and Die Hard. I think Die Hard 4.0 had some excellent moments and elements, let down by the whole PG-13 / 12A thing. If they went back to the idea for Die Hard 3 that had to be abandoned when Under Siege proved unexpectedly successful (John & Holly on a reconciliation cruise when the ship is taken over) then Die hard 5 could possibly recapture the claustrophobic dynamism of the the first instalment. I guess like with any other franchise, laziness will kill it, fresh invention will improve it.

  2. Die Hard 5, how can anyone say no to this? The first film was the best action film of the 80s and the sequels were all good in their own right. At least theye were in different settings rather than regurgitating the same style. Its not as bad as Harrison Ford attempting to fight in Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of Crystal rubbbish!!!

  3. For a start id just like to say that the Die Hard franchise is by far the best action series out there. It has everything in it, action, comedy, a love story (from time to time anyway) and some damn fine acting! Although i was dissapointed in the 12A ratig at the cinema i would love the chance to see John Maclane on the big screen in his entirity… as we all know and love him. Im very interested in finding out the next story and if this is the last to give it a big send off. Also just like to add in Die Hard 4.0 John wasnt introduced in the back on Lucy's boyfriends car…. he was in his own car. Got out, walked over to the car and dragged her boyfriend out of it. As we would expect for this character. If you are goin to slate the movie please pick something that ACTUALLY happens in the movie!

  4. not sure where use lot are getting this 12A/PG13 thing from im looking at die hard 4 dvd now and it has a 15 certificate. think this film would be awsome!! they have to end it at this one tho with everything getting tied up like him and holly, and perhaps his son helps him instead of his daughter this time

  5. I like the idea of his son being involved and Holly and Him be reconsiled. I would like a story thats unpredictable and with this being the last one before its taken as a joke they really do need to give him a good send off… even if that means him dying. As far as the 12A rating goes…. it was released on DVD as a 15 this is true but the cinema release was a 12A i know this because i went to see it and was VERY dissapointed with it, it was not the character we all knew and loved… he did not swear once through out the whole film and the violence was cut down and the famous Yippie Ki Yay line was blanked out with a gunshot. I was very much relieved when the DVD version was released to have restored him back to way I remember.
