9. Bran sees too Much (Season 1 Episode 1 – Winter is Coming)

Jaime Pushes Bran

From the moment viewers sat down to watch the pilot episode, it becomes quickly aware that this is no ordinary television show. Throughout the first hour, we are shown how young Bran Stark (Isaac Hempstead Wright) is an avid climber, but it isn’t long before his inquisitive nature lands him in true danger.

Mounting himself onto a high window ledge, he catches a glimpse of siblings Jaime (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) and Cersei (Lena Headey) Lannister performing incestuous sex causing the callous brother to push him off which leaves him permanently disabled. For a pilot to present incest and child abuse is staggeringly bold and could have easily had some switching off, but the thought of losing viewers was certainly not much of an issue for Beinoff and Weiss.
