The Fall Guy. (1981 – 1986)
The previously bionic Lee Majors played Colt Seavers, a Hollywood stuntman – he might fall from a tall building, he might roll a brand new car, ‘cause he’s the unknown stuntman that made Redford such a star.
Seavers supplements his income with a second career as a bounty hunter, and he often uses the tricks of the movie set to corner his quarry. In these endeavours he is aided by his dim-witted cousin, Howie (Douglas Barr) and a fellow stunt-performer Jody Banks played by the impossibly beautiful Heather Thomas.
Seavers made good use of his trademark GMC truck, and he famously had an outdoor bathtub that allowed him to smoke cigars while he soaked his aching muscles.
Casino Royale director Martin Campbell had been lined up to direct Nicolas Cage in a big-screen Fall Guy adventure, but the project stalled. The latest news is that Charlie’s Angels director McG will take a second stab at a TV show remake, with Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson as Colt Seavers.
With no news forthcoming in months, it seems that this version may have run out of steam too. With luck, the impetus for a Fall Guy movie will return, if only for the chance to see Heather Thomas again. Plus, there hasn’t been a decent movie about stunt men since The Stunt Man.
