Even if  you are a zombie purist you can’t deny the visceral thrill of Danny Boyle’s foray into undead territory with 28 Days Later.  Juan Carlos Fresnadillo had Boyle in a producing capacity when he looked at what was left of humanity 28 Weeks Later, and rumours of a sequel (Months? Years?) have been around ever since.

France and Russia have been mentioned in terms of the location for the, so far, London based corpseacopia and Boyle and original scriptwriter Alex Garland (who both have films coming out cynic fans) have commented on the possibility of a new film.

Now, without too much to go on there’s another such rumour, the difference is that Danny Boyle appears to confirm there’s another film in the pipeline, with him as is director. Though how likely it is that he follows up his Oscar winning Slumdog Millionaire and 127 Hours (which is sure to have a few Oscar nominations) with a new zombie film remains to be seen.

Dread Central talk up a conversation in which Danny Boyle gives a little update.

For those wondering, this news has come from Boyle himself. The director indicated to a good friend of our site that “there’s another 28 Days Later in the works.” When asked if the title would be 28 Months Later, Boyle replied “In theory, yes.” Immediately the next question was if he’d be producing, to which Boyle responded, “Actually I want to direct it.” There you have it, kids. From the horse’s mouth.

Then, some digging by The Playlist dragged up this quote from Alex Garland to Worst Previews,

When we made ’28 Days Later,’ the rights were frozen between a group of people who are no longer talking to each other. And so, the film is never going to happen unless those people start talking to each other again. There is no script as far as I’m aware.

So, with Oscar in hand and a string of brilliant and eclectic films behind him it would seem a little odd for Boyle to jump back into the zombie game, though he has often spoken of his affection for the first 28 film. Would you like to see another Boyle directed zombie movie, or are you more interested in which genre he’ll tackle next?
