Dabangg was one of the biggest hits in the history of Hindi cinema and except for the few niggles I had with it (action scenes were heavily inspired or straight lifted from other movies) it was a near perfect vehicle for the reign of Salman Khan, but pretty much after the release there were rumors of director Abhinav Kashyap and producer Arbaaz Khan having issue on set.
I guess the rumours were silenced by the loud ringing of the cash register and the love that the audience had for Chulbul Pandey and debutant Sonakshi Sinha, so there wasn’t much surprise when they announced a sequel.
The surprise was that producer Arbaaz Khan would be stepping into the director shoes for his debut and that they would manage to finish shooting for 2012.
But looking at the trailer it looks like they have been extremely smart and not change to formula too much but just give the audience more of what it loves.
The shades are back, so are the zinging one liners, kick ass action and Salman looking bad ass (Yes, I am biased)
This might be the best thing I’ve seen all year in Bollywood and if the expectations that the trailer has set do ring true, this might end up being my favorite movie of the year just like the first one.
