Kristen-Stewart-in-Camp-X-RayKristen Stewart has been diversifying her career path for years, always keeping things interesting with plenty of indie projects to sit nicely in her credits alongside the likes of Twilight and Snow White. Camp X-Ray marks Stewart’s first leading role since the former franchise ended, and with the film set to make its debut at Sundance in the New Year, the first image of Stewart has surfaced online.

A young woman is stationed as a guard in Guantanamo Bay, where she forms an unlikely friendship with one of the detainees.

Stewart is joined by Payman Maadi, Lane Garrison, J.J. Soria, Julia Duffy, Yousuf Azami, and John Carroll Lynch.

Peter Sattler is making his feature directorial debut with the drama, directing from his own script, with David Gordon Green executive producing.

No word yet on when we can expect Camp X-Ray to head into cinemas, but if you want to be amongst the first to see it in the New Year, then make sure you head out to Park City. For now, here’s the first image of Stewart as Cole, which you can click through to enlarge.

  1. SundanceStew is back and can’t wait to see Camp X-Ray. So sure she will be phenomenal in her role as a military prison guard in GITMO. Talk about developing her acting range this appears to be an amazing movie for her. She is always attracted to movies and roles/characters that matter to people and this is certainly in that category. And it seems like the script written by Peter Settled is amazing which is another reason that Kristen wanted to do this movie. Congratulations to the entire cast and crew, and especially to Peter for getting this movie completed in time for the Sundance Film Festival Jury screening.

  2. This is her 7th movie which will be premiered in Sundance. She’s awesome. She knows good ones. Hats off Kristen! Keep it up!

  3. I love Kristen as an actress and can’t wait to see this movie. Kristen will definitely bring something new to the subject matter. Kristen indie movies always cover tough subjects and characters that are not mainstream, but leaves you thinking about them and the trials they overcome. As a dramatic actress, I think she’s one of the best and I am really looking forward to next year when her new movies comes out.
