STUDIOCANAL has dropped the very first teaser trailer for ‘California Schemin’, marking the highly anticipated directorial debut of James McAvoy. The film will hit UK & Irish cinemas on 10 April 2026, offering a vibrant, character-driven comedy inspired by an improbable true story.
California Schemin’ centres on Scottish best friends Gavin (Ross) and Billy (Bottomley), two aspiring MCs desperate to break into the music industry. Tired of being overlooked, they hatch a bold—and brilliantly misguided—plan: reinvent themselves as Californian hip hop artists in a bid to score the record deal of their dreams.
Their unexpected rise through the scene propels them toward the fame they’ve always wanted, but the act becomes harder to maintain as the attention intensifies. With the lies stacking up and the stakes growing higher, Gavin and Billy’s friendship faces its toughest test yet.
Starring Séamus McLean Ross (Outlander: Blood of My Blood, Rebus), Samuel Bottomley (How to Have Sex, Anemone), Lucy Halliday (Blue Jean, The Testaments), and Rebekah Murrell (Pirates, One Day), the film also features McAvoy in a supporting role.
