Here’s some rather fun news this morning. The LA Times is reporting that Brett Ratner (X-Men: The Last Stand, Red Dragon) is set to direct a new live action version of Hercules. Now, all I ask is that it doesn’t try to copy the Disney version although if a character called Philoctetes comes alon (pronounced in the movie as ‘Philatities’!!), so be it!

According to the story, the production will take around three years and will be produced by Millennium/Nu Image which is the same team behind the Conan movie which is currently in production and Ratner was once attached to direct.

Ratner is in talks to direct Lerner’s long-developed tale of the mythological god (Hercules to the Romans, Heracles to the Greeks). The producer has been developing the movie for more than three years, with the project gaining new momentum of late, though it’s still in the development stage. Little is known about the specifics of the new version, though it’s expected to bring Lerner’s classic action ethos to the larger-than-life character.

Head over to the The LA Times for more info but we’ll bring you more as we get it of course!
