There has been talk for quite some time that Warner Bros. want a female director for Wonder Woman, and now TV director Michelle MacLaren has been named as a frontrunner for the job by a number of outlets.

It doesn’t sound like she’s in negotiations just yet, but MacLaren has a very impressive résumé which includes some of the best episodes of shows like Breaking Bad, Game of Thrones and The Walking Dead.

The studio have been meeting with a number of filmmakers both male and female, but it’s only recently that MacLaren has emerged as the frontrunner. More and more comic book movies are being released every year, but Wonder Woman looks like it could potentially be the first to not have a man calling the shots!

Comparisons have been made between MacLaren and Kathryn Bigelow, and the former has won a number of awards for her small screen work over the years. A tentpole like Wonder Woman could be the perfect project to bring her talents to an even wider audience however and she’s no stranger to strong female characters.

Wonder Woman (played by Fast & Furious star Gal Gadot) will first be introduced in 2016’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and her solo movie is scheduled to be released on June 23rd, 2017.
