Splinter Cell

With Michael Fassbender attached to star in an adaptation of Assassin’s Creed and Michael Bay set to produce and direct Ghost Recon, Ubisoft are really ramping up their efforts to bring their video games to life on the big screen. Another of these is Splinter Cell, the franchise based on the work of the late Tom Clancy.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Doug Liman (The Bourne Identity, Mr. and Mrs. Smith, Edge of Tomorrow) is in final talks to direct Splinter Cell for video game developers Ubisoft and New Regency.

The site goes on to add that they are now hoping to begin production this August in order to meet a 2015 release date. Basil Iwanyk of Thunder Road Pictures and Jean-Julien Baronnet of Ubisoft Motion Picture Group are producing, along with Liman and his partner, David Bartis.

Eric Singer, who wrote an early draft of American Hustle, penned the screenplay and The Dark Knight Rises’ Tom Hardy is still attached to star. As of 2012, the video game franchise had sold over 23 million units.
