Interview: Blair Witch’s Adam Wingard & Simon Barrett on working in secret and the legacy of the first film

In the latest of our dispatches from the 2016 Toronto Film Festival Stefan Pape interviews Director Adam Wingard & Writer Simon Barrett for the next chapter of the Blair Witch story.

Filmed under the title of ‘The Woods’ the film was recently revealed to be a revisiting of the Blair Witch mythology, something that the little-seen Blair Witch 2: Book of Shadows attempted to do, with far less success.

The sequel to The Blair Witch Project stars  James Allen McCune, Callie Hernandez, and Corbin Reid and is a visceral horror, with some neat expansion of the mythology while delivering an intense experience.

After discovering a video showing what he believes to be his sister’s experiences in the demonic woods of the Blair Witch, James and a group of friends head to the forest in search of his lost sibling.

They talk about keeping the movie a secret, working on the legacy and what audiences can expect. Here’s the interview,
