7: The Academy Nominate Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close, ignore a long list of brilliant films.

Extremely-Loud-And-Incredibly-Close

The 84th Academy Awards, which took place in 2012 will forever be remembered as the year where that silent French film came out of nowhere to snag the Best Picture prize. Now whether or not The Artist deserved to win that year is another matter, the most shocking thing about that year was the fact that the extremely naff and incredibly dull, Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close got a best picture nomination.

2011 was a year featuring some great films. Features like Drive and Shame have both stood the test of time, with the former set for cult classic status, whilst films like We Need to Talk about Kevin both terrified and challenged audiences everywhere.

All of these though, and many more were ignored in favour of the manipulative and at times very ill judged Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close. If ever there was proof that the Academy are out of touch with modern tastes, this is it.
