9. VHS/VHS 2

Hard to believe now considering how long it’s been talked about online since its festival debut at Sundance in 2012, but the first VHS movie was actually released in January 2013 in the UK followed by the sequel in October, probably the quickest turnaround between original and sequel ever.

The first is a rough around the ages, occasionally scary, occasionally hilarious found footage anthology which is a great movie to watch in a crowd which is why it was such a festival hit. The second is an altogether more polished affair with more talented directors stepping up to give us more outrageous and complete feeling sequences making up the four shorts that make up the sequel.

Gareth Evans ‘Safe Haven’ is the best one here and the best thing that the franchise has given us so far and such a wonderful piece of balls out insanity that stands on its own. Ten years ago these two films would have gotten a major cinema release and been major hits, sadly nobody has any faith in these folks or this idea so straight to DVD they went.
