Justice League star Ben Affleck isn’t sure he’ll direct The Batman after all

Just when you thought things couldn't get worse for the DC Films Universe...

For a long time now, Ben Affleck has been going back and fore on what is happening with The Batman. He’s supposed to be writing the movie alongside comic book scribe Geoff Johns before directing and starring in it, and while both he and various other cast members have indicated that the movie will start shooting this spring, that may not be the case after all.

With Live by Night under-performing at the box office and receiving scathing reviews (making it Affleck’s first disappointment as a director following the success of Gone Baby Gone, The Town, and the Oscar-winning Argo), it seems like the Justice League star is having second thoughts about it being his next project. “That’s the idea. But it’s not a set thing and there’s no script. If it doesn’t come together in a way I think is really great, I’m not going to do it.”

Ben Affleck as Batman

Chances are The Batman will eventually happen – Justice League 2 may have even been pushed back to make room for it – but Affleck doesn’t exactly sound all that optimistic!

Now, with Live by Night not doing well, Affleck could decide to pull the plug on the movie if he’s not 100% confident in its chances of success. What can Warner Bros. do about that? Very little right now, especially as the director also plays Batman in the DC Films Universe…

  1. I really wish I was apart of this team. The casting, story, and direction.Batman or Ben would be the highest paid, and then Superman. The rest of the founding members would be well paid, but it would be based on the work they did on set. Every member is not needed for every show, and some like the Green Lanterns would been needed for a certain period of time. That said there would be no REPEAT NO BATMAN, SUPERMAN, WONDER WOMAN, FLASH, OR CYBORG TITLED MOVIES. Those budgets would be put into building a John Stewart, Shayera Hol, Wally West, Booster Gold, Vixen, Green Arrow, Super girl movies.

If Stewart is to have a big role in the first two JL movies, take him off the list and Guy Gardner. I pick Guy over Kyle, because Guy at some point crosses over to the red Lanterns.

Second why have Superman battle Batman for leadership of the Justice League, when in Superman’s mind he would do nothing to help Batman, and he doesn’t want to join his team. It should be Batman asking Superman to join the team and Superman should refuse to do anything to help Batman. In fact Suoerman tells Batman to stay out of his way of Batman and his little team will be laid to rest and they can thank Batman. That takes place yet on the other side is Flash who doesn’t know about the beef between the two and he befri nods Superman after joining Batman’s team and he also tries to recruit Superman who likes the idea until Batman is revealed as part of ththe group.

Notice I did not call Batman the leader because that comes later. And I make Hal Jordan and Batman tussle for leadership only to have the obvious win out which is Batman is a real human with no powers making him a most trustworthy connection for the being of the planet Earth and it’s Super beings.

Back to Superman being recruited, it is his mother Martha and Lois kind words that convince Superman that Batman might be a little misguided, but he will give his life to protect the lives of others. Martha and Lois tells of how Batman has always found time to visit them and Make them feel safe. Martha tells her son, Superman, how Batman would stop by every Tuesday without fail to make sure she was never in need of anything, and in Martha’s words Batman never made he feel like he was trying to replace him.

The Green Lanterns and Superman know each other and it is because of him the Lanterns offer to listen to Batman and in JL2 they help in the battle to protect Earth. Near the end you can see Batman and Hal verbally starts to wrestle for the Leadership title. John Stewart joins, and Hal says he will join but only under someone more powerful than himself which that means John Stewart or Superman, and Superman says Who better to represent the Justice League to humans than a human.

  2. Click bait! He is not saying he will not direct it. He is saying that he will only direct the film when he has a good script finalized. And he is working on it.
