Beautiful New International Poster for Les Misérables

3

The first screening of Tom Hooper’s Les Misérables has been held, and the reception has been overwhelming, opening to standing ovations and further strengthened predictions surrounding the already Oscar-buzzed film.

We were treated to an absolutely stunning full-length trailer earlier in the month – which still sends shivers down my spine, after watching it countless times – and now a new international poster has made its way online.

“Set against the backdrop of 19th-century France, Les Misérables tells an enthralling story of broken dreams and unrequited love, passion, sacrifice and redemption—a timeless testament to the survival of the human spirit. Jackman plays ex-prisoner Jean Valjean, hunted for decades by the ruthless policeman Javert (Crowe) after he breaks parole. When Valjean agrees to care for factory worker Fantine’s (Hathaway) young daughter, Cosette, their lives change forever.”

Hugh Jackman, Russell Crowe, Anne Hathaway, and Amanda Seyfried lead a fantastic cast, with a terrific supporting cast headed up by Eddie Redmayne, Sacha Baron Cohen, Helena Bonham Carter, Samantha Barks, and Isabelle Allen.

Hooper is directing from a script by William Nicholson (Gladiator, Shadowlands), who adapts the original classic novel of the same name by Victor Hugo and the world-famous stage musical. And with every single note of the musical sung live on the set, there’s good reason for it being one of the year’s most anticipated films.

Les Misérables will be released in the US on Christmas Day, and will then arrive on our shores in the UK on 11th January. This looks set to be an absolute must-see. I cannot wait.

  1. Not content with depriving Miss Barks of any opportunity to be featured on a promo poster as Eponine, the marketing department has failed to ensure that her name is included on the main poster. The character she play, as I understand it, is an important one in the story, so the promotional side of things should reflect this, and I am dismayed that it hasn’t.

  2. Interesting point. I guess they have to go with the people they think will best ‘sell’ the movie to get bums in seats but it’s an interesting point that the lesser actors don’t make it onto the posters but i guess there isn’t room for everyone.

  3. They should have made room for Samantha Barks. The part she plays is one of the main characters of the story. Her being a lesser name is not an excuse for omitting her. Imagine if they’d done that with Christopher Reeve, when the movie poster for ‘Superman’ came out.
