Netflix has released the official trailer for ‘Ballad of a Small Player,’ a mesmerising new drama from Academy Award®-nominated filmmaker Edward Berger (All Quiet on the Western Front). Based on the acclaimed novel by Lawrence Osborne, the film stars Colin Farrell in a haunting and deeply atmospheric tale of chance, redemption, and the ghosts we carry.

Set amidst the neon glow and restless allure of Macau’s casinos, ‘Ballad of a Small Player’ follows Lord Doyle (Farrell), a high-stakes gambler and fugitive from his own past. As debts mount and old enemies close in, Doyle drifts through the city’s underworld—until he crosses paths with a mysterious woman (Fala Chen) whose presence could either save him or seal his fate.

The film also features Deanie Ip, Alex Jennings, and Tilda Swinton in a rich ensemble that brings to life Osborne’s world of opulence and ruin, where fortune and despair are only ever a hand apart.

Berger’s direction infuses the story with his signature visual precision and emotional intensity, crafting a cinematic experience that is both intimate and epic—a meditation on luck, loss, and the fragile line between escape and surrender.
