The road to Britain’s biggest night in film officially began today as the EE BAFTA Film Awards 2026 nominations were unveiled during a global livestream from BAFTA’s iconic headquarters at 195 Piccadilly, London.
The announcement was hosted by David Jonsson and Aimee Lou Wood, who revealed this year’s nominees live on BAFTA’s YouTube channel, drawing film fans and industry insiders from around the world into the heart of awards season.
Following Tuesday’s announcement, Paul Thomas Anderson’s political satire ‘One Battle After Another ’emerged as the clear frontrunner, leading the field with 14 nominations overall. The film’s strong showing spans major categories including Best Film, Director, acting races and multiple craft awards, cementing its position as one of the defining contenders of this year’s awards season.
Close behind is Ryan Coogler’s historical horror ‘Sinners,’ which secured 13 nominations, marking a significant milestone for BAFTA. The nominations also represent a first-time BAFTA recognition for both Ryan Coogler and star Michael B. Jordan, who is nominated in the Leading Actor category.
Meanwhile, ‘Hamnet’ and ‘Marty Supreme’ each earned 11 nominations, underlining their broad support across performance, screenplay and technical categories.
While ‘Hamnet’ has been widely embraced as a standard-bearer for British cinema, Chloé Zhao’s adaptation has also made BAFTA history, becoming the most-nominated film by a female director at this year’s awards. The film’s success spans Best Film, Outstanding British Film, multiple acting nominations and key craft categories, positioning it as one of the ceremony’s most significant achievements.
The EE BAFTA Film Awards 2026 ceremony will be hosted by Alan Cumming and takes place on Sunday, 22 February, broadcast in the UK on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
Voting is now open for the EE Rising Star Award, the only BAFTA category voted for by the public. Audiences can cast their votes now at ee.co.uk/BAFTA, with the winner to be announced during the ceremony.
