Austenland-PosterBringing to life the world of Jane Austen in an entirely different light, Austenland premiered at Sundance at the start of the year to excellent early reviews.

The independent film was quickly acquired by Sony Classics for a summer release in the US. And with that August release date on the horizon, the studio have released a new poster, with leading lady Keri Russell front and centre.

“Austenland” is a romantic comedy about 30-something, single Jane Hayes, a seemingly normal young woman with a secret: her obsession with all things Jane Austen. But when she decides to spend her life savings on a trip to an English resort catering to Austen-crazed women, Jane’s fantasies of meeting the perfect Regency-era gentleman suddenly become more real than she ever could have imagined.

Russell is joined by a terrific cast, headed up by JJ Feild, Bret McKenzie, Jane Seymour, Jennifer Coolidge, Georgia King, James Callis, and Ricky Whittle. I’m especially looking forward to seeing McKenzie on screen here alongside Russell, as a big fan of everything I’ve seen him do so far.

Jerusha Hess makes her feature directorial debut, directing from a script she co-wrote with Shannon Hale, adapting Hale’s original novel of the same name.

Austenland will begin its limited release in the US in NY and LA on August 16th, and is set to open wider across the States in successive weeks. Here in the UK, it will be arriving a little later on 27th September. Whilst we wait for the first trailer, which should be arriving shortly, here’s the new poster for the romantic comedy.
