Anna Kendrick is without a doubt one of the most talented and promising young stars in recent memory, deserving every bit her Oscar nomination (and, in my opinion, the award itself) for Up in the Air, opposite George Clooney.

Taking the lead in Universal’s very successful musical comedy, Pitch Perfect (which is due out in the UK on 21st December), she’s proving herself to be a leading lady that the studios can trust, and now Moviehole are reporting that she has another promising musical project on the horizon, taking the lead in the adaptation of the musical, The Last 5 Years.

The film is based on the original play/musical of the same name by Jason Robert Brown, which centred around the ups and down of a relationship, telling the young wife’s story in reverse chronological order, and the husband’s in chronological.

“THE LAST 5 YEARS is a musical about the love affair and marriage of Cathy (Kendrick), a struggling actress, and Jamie, a rising novelist, told through emotionally powerful and comedic songs from their individual perspectives. The story chronicles the five-year life of their marriage, from meeting to break-up…or from break-up to meeting, depending on how you look at it. THE LAST 5 YEARS is a musical love story for a new generation.”

Richard LaGravenese (Water for Elephants, the upcoming Beautiful Creatures) will be at the helm, directing from his own, script, and the film will be heading to the American Film Market next week, with a great little sales poster which you can see in full below.

Kendrick will next be seen in Robert Redford’s The Company You Keep, and we have a slew of films to look forward to seeing her in next year, with the likes of Get a Job, Rapturepalooza, and Drinking Buddies all completed or in post-production.

She’s been very much one to watch for some time now, and it’s brilliant to see her success continuing to rise. The Last 5 Years sounds like another terrific role for her, and I can’t wait to see how it unfolds. More as we get it.
