Dogwoof has unveiled the trailer for ‘ANDRÉ IS AN IDIOT,’ and it announces itself with a grin, a raised eyebrow, and a surprising amount of heart. Directed by Tony Benna, the film is a boldly funny, deeply human meditation on death that refuses solemnity at every turn. Instead, it leans into curiosity, chaos, and the liberating power of laughter when the clock is ticking loudest.
The film follows André, a self-described “brilliant idiot” and iconoclastic ad man who learns he is dying from a disease that could have been detected with a routine colonoscopy. Rather than retreating into fear or regret, André does what he has always done: he documents the experience on his own terms. Armed with humour, candour, and an almost mischievous fascination with the unknown, he sets out to learn how to die both happily and ridiculously, turning his final chapter into an act of creative defiance.
What makes ‘ANDRÉ IS AN IDIOT ‘especially distinctive is its imaginative visual language. In close collaboration with Benna, André’s reflections are transformed through inventive stop-motion animation, giving shape to his thoughts, jokes, and philosophical detours. The result feels playful and poignant in equal measure, as if the film itself is refusing to sit still, much like its subject.
