MGM+ has officially begun production on the second season of its hit thriller-horror series ‘The Institute,’ based on Stephen King’s best-selling novel, with filming kicking off February 3 in Halifax. Alongside the start of shooting comes a major casting reveal: Alfie Allen (Game of Thrones, Rogue Heroes) is joining the series in a pivotal new role.
Allen will portray Nolan Reeves, an eccentric European tech billionaire and one of the Institute’s mysterious financial backers. While Reeves’ wealth helps keep the shadowy organization alive, his personal ambitions suggest motives far more complicated than simple patronage.
He joins a returning ensemble that includes Ben Barnes (Shadow and Bone, The Punisher, Westworld), Mary-Louise Parker (Weeds), Joe Freeman, Simone Miller (Run the Burbs), Fionn Laird (Under the Banner of Heaven), Robert Joy (FROM), Arlen So (Private Eyes West Coast), Jeff Fahey (Lost), and Hannah Galway (Billy the Kid).

Season two continues the story in the immediate aftermath of the explosive first-season finale. Survivors Luke Ellis, Tim Jamieson, and their allies work desperately to expose the Institute’s crimes while evading the relentless killers hunting them down. At the same time, the ruthless Ms. Sigsby presses forward on her quest for vengeance and a return to power, uncovering deeper secrets about the Institute’s inner machinery than ever before.
Behind the scenes, the series remains firmly in the hands of King’s longtime collaborators. Stephen King serves as executive producer, with Jack Bender (Lost, Game of Thrones, Mr. Mercedes, FROM) directing and executive producing, and Benjamin Cavell (Justified, The Stand) returning as executive producer and writer.
