Aaron Paul has of course been one to watch for years now, truly making a name for himself opposite Bryan Cranston in Breaking Bad, winning an Emmy for Best Supporting Actor in the Drama category.

Adding to his upcoming slate, he’s now joined A Long Way Down, the adaptation of Nick Hornby’s 2005 novel of the same name, Deadline report.

Courtesy of Amazon, here’s a look at the novel’s synopsis:

“In his fourth novel, New York Times-bestselling author Nick Hornby mines the hearts and psyches of four lost souls who connect just when they’ve reached the end of the line.

Meet Martin, JJ, Jess, and Maureen. Four people who come together on New Year’s Eve: a former TV talk show host, a musician, a teenage girl, and a mother. Three are British, one is American. They encounter one another on the roof of Topper’s House, a London destination famous as the last stop for those ready to end their lives.

In four distinct and riveting first-person voices, Nick Hornby tells a story of four individuals confronting the limits of choice, circumstance, and their own mortality. This is a tale of connections made and missed, punishing regrets, and the grace of second chances.

Intense, hilarious, provocative, and moving, A Long Way Down is a novel about suicide that is, surprisingly, full of life.”

Paul is joining an impressive cast, starring alongside Pierce Brosnan, Imogen Poots, and Toni Collette, with Paul completing the leading quartet as JJ, the musician/pizza delivery man.

Pascal Chaumeil (Heartbreaker) will be behind the camera, directing from a script by Jack Thorne (This Is England ’86 and ’88), with Oscar-nominated Finola Dwyer (An Education, the upcoming Quartet) producing.

Hornby is of course no stranger to the big screen, with earlier novels About a Boy and High Fidelity both finding tremendous success in their adaptations. The cast is looking excellent for A Long Way Down, and the expectations will be high.

A Long Way Down is set to start shooting in London next month, and hopefully we’ll be looking at an autumn release in 2013, if not sooner. The project has instantly becoming that much more anticipated with Paul’s involvement, and I can’t wait to see how it unfolds next year. More as we get it.
