I thought Jumper was pretty terrible. I was bored from the beginning and that boredom didn’t disappear throughout the whole movie. I don’t find Hayden Christensen to be a very charismatic actor and to be honest, although it looked visually pretty good, the whole experience was pretty lame. Jumper hosted a pretty cool cast which also included Jamie Bell, Samuel L. Jackson, Rachel Bilson, Michael Rooker, Diane Lane, AnnaSophia Robb, Max Thieriot, Teddy Dunn, Jesse James and was directed by Doug Liman (The Bourne Identity).
IMDb scores the movie at 5.9 from 68 000 + votes at the time of writing so it would appear that most people agree with me, and then comes news of a possible Jumper sequel! WHY?! Unfortunately it’s probably down to money again. From the look of it, the movie cost around $85m to make and brought in around $222m at the worldwide box office. Not hugely impressive stats but I guess a $100m profit means that a sequel is worth making. The problem is, will anyone go and watch it?
MTV caught up with Christensen at the Takers premiere and asked him about what’s happening with it. The shock news was that they were talking about it now!

It had its moments but it’s certainly not a classic (and that’s being kind)…
AT LAST! I panicked that when Christensen and Bilson broke up earlier this week the movie might never get made. The first was fumbled but the effects, premise and thought that had gone into the mythology had so much promise!
can someone give me a recall of the story of this?
If only Doug Liman had stuck to the original story for Jumper it would have much better. But then the author of the story has since rereleased the story with it rewritten to match the movie. For those interested.. the Original book had the main character only running away from home, robbing the bank, searching for his mother only to have her die in an airline hijacking. Then he begins to hunt the terrorist responsible for the hijacking while running from national security or cia (sorry been a while since I read the original). At the same time he was having the romance with the girl and trying to keep her safe from the govt. There were no other jumpers, no secret society hunting them, and mother was just a woman that left an abusive relationship. Only a few scenes from the book actually made it into the movie. Guess Liman thought he knew better by shooting what he did instead of just shooting a good story that was handed to him. I have loaned the book out many times to people and the comment I always get is “why didn’t they shoot this story instead??” So my suggestion is to see if you can find the original version of the book and read it.
I read the original story, and I’m glad they didn’t stick to the original story, no matter how good it was. When filmmakers follow a book, and don’t divert, it requires very little imagination. Nowadays, it’s not the story that interests people. It’s the sex and the violence, and the technology and VFX. In order to ensure they made some money, they had to change the story.
Plus, Doug Liman is notorious for his reluctance to work with a locked script. Even if he started as the books did, I guarantee it would have gone off on a tangent before they were halfway through.
