2. Jennifer Carpenter

Despite the fact that Debra Morgan was often lumbered with some of Dexter’s worst storylines (how many boyfriend’s did she get through again?), Jennifer Carpenter was never anything less than superb in the now concluded Showtime series. The last two years in particular saw her gain plenty of critical acclaim, but now that she’s no longer committed to an ongoing show, a role like this would be perfect for Carpenter. She’s the right age, build and certainly beautiful enough to play the character. It wouldn’t be a stretch for her to go from the tough as nails Miami Metro detective to a private eye, but Jessica Jones is a different enough character to mean that this would be far from a sideways move for the actress. Her Dexter co-star Michael C. Hall showed what a diverse actor he is when he went from Six Feet Under to Dexter, and it would be great to see Carpenter now get the opportunity to do the same as she’s easily one of the best – and arguably most underrated – actresses working today.
