The studio has just under two months before putting the film into theatres, arriving on both sides of that Atlantic over the Christmas period. And along with releasing the new trailer below, via MSN, there’s also a new poster to enjoy, with Keanu Reeves standing tall over his co-stars.
After a treacherous warlord kills their master and banishes their kind, 47 leaderless samurai vow to seek vengeance and restore honor to their people. Driven from their homes and dispersed across the land, this band of Ronin must seek the help of Kai (Reeves)—a half-breed they once rejected—as they fight their way across a savage world of mythic beasts, shape-shifting witchcraft and wondrous terrors. As this exiled, enslaved outcast becomes their most deadly weapon, he will transform into the hero who inspires this band of outnumbered rebels to seize eternity.
Reeves is joined by a stellar cast, led by Hiroyuki Sanada, Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa, Rinko Kikuchi, Tadanobu Asano, K? Shibasaki, and Jin Akanishi, adding up to one of the best casts of the year.
Carl Rinsch (The Gift) makes his feature directorial debut, with Chris Morgan, of the Fast & Furious franchise, penning the script.
47 Ronin will be released in 3D on Christmas Day in the US, with its UK release date set for Boxing Day. In the meantime, the new trailer and poster will hopefully make that wait a little bit easier. Enjoy.
The trailer looks spectacular. Although it irks me to no end how much screen time terciary characters like zombie boy gets for the US trailer, instead of the great Japanese supporting cast that should actually be on the spotlight. Even the new poster gets that ridiculous treatment.
