42-Teaser-PosterDue out in theatres this April, Brian Helgeland’s baseball biopic 42 tells the story of Jackie Robinson, the first African American to break the colour barrier in America’s pastime by joining the Dodgers back in 1947.

We saw the first trailer last September, which gave us a brilliant first look at the film, with a lot of promise. And with only a few more months to go before it hits the big screen, Apple have debuted the second trailer for the Warner Bros. movie, which is every bit as brilliant.

“Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures are teaming up with director Brian Helgeland for “42,” the powerful story of Jackie Robinson, the legendary baseball player who broke Major League Baseball’s color barrier when he joined the roster of the Brooklyn Dodgers. “42” will star Academy Award(R) nominee Harrison Ford (“Witness”) as the innovative Dodger’s general manager Branch Rickey, the MLB executive who first signed Robinson to the minors and then helped to bring him up to the show, and Chadwick Boseman (“The Express”) as Robinson, the heroic African American who was the first man to break the color line in the big leagues.”

Chadwick Boseman (Persons Unknown, The Express) takes the lead here as Robinson, with Harrison Ford playing the Dodger’s GM, Branch Rickey, who signed him to the minors and then brought him up to the big leagues.

Starring alongside the leading duo will be an excellent cast, headed up by Alan Tudyk (Firefly), Christopher Meloni (Law & Order), T.R. Knight (Grey’s Anatomy), Ryan Merriman (Pretty Little Liars), Jon Bernthal (The Walking Dead), and Nicole Beharie (Shame).

The Oscar-winning Brian Helgeland (L.A. Confidential, Man on Fire) is behind the camera, directing from his own script.

42 will be released in the US on 12th April, which is definitely a date you’ll want to commit to memory. Still no word yet on a UK release date, but I’m keeping my fingers crossed that that will be changing soon. For now, here’s the second trailer to set the tone. Enjoy.
