Set your countdown timers, UK readers: We are exactly five weeks away from seeing The Avengers on the big screen.

In the past few weeks and months, we’ve been getting plenty from Joss Whedon’s upcoming superhero blockbuster with which to whet our appetites, and our anticipation couldn’t be higher.

Marvel have put out the first 30-second TV spot promoting the film’s IMAX release has surfaced online, and now we bring it to you for your viewing pleasure.

Whedon is directing from his own script (because he’s awesome), and we can of course look forward to seeing our favourite superheroes from the recent entries in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the form of Iron Man (Robert Downey, Jr., with Paul Bettany returning as JARVIS), Thor (Chris Hemsworth), Captain America (Chris Evans), the Hulk (Mark Ruffalo, taking over from Edward Norton), Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner), Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson), Agent Coulson (Clark Gregg), Pepper Potts (Gwyneth Paltrow), and Loki (Tom Hiddleston).

Here in the UK, the film was recently re-titled Avengers Assemble, so no need to panic if you can’t find ‘The Avengers’ playing in your local cinema. Odds are pretty good it’ll be playing near you, wherever you are.

The Avengers will be released here in the UK a day earlier than expected, now set for Thursday 26th April, giving it a four-day weekend opening that will almost definitely soar to #1 at the box office at the end of next month. The US will then be getting it a week later on 4th May (a.k.a. Star Wars Day) – Iron Man, Iron Man 2, and Thor all debuted in the US on the first weekend of May in their respective years as well, as will Iron Man 3 next year. (Show of hands/comments below, who’s already excited about that too?)
