Killing Them Softly teaser posterKilling Them Softly sees Brad Pitt reuniting with Andrew Dominik, writer-director of The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford.

It’s long been one of our most highly anticipated films of 2012, and debuting at Cannes this month, the awesome first teaser poster has made its way online, taking an excellent ‘less is more’ approach.

Alongside Pitt in the lead is a fantastic supporting cast, headed up by the rising young actor Scoot McNairy (Monster, Ben Affleck’s upcoming Argo), James Gandolfini, Ray Liotta, Ben Mendelsohn, Richard Jenkins, Sam Shepard, and Slaine.

“When their poker game is knocked off by petty thieves, the Mob calls in their best enforcer, Jackie Cogan, to make things right. Under the eye of a mysterious driver, Jackie must track down and punish those responsible for the heist. His assignment is complicated by those he comes up against along the way – an aging, drunken hit man, some bumbling local gangsters, and the ladies’ man who ran the ill-fated game.”

Previously titled Cogan’s Trade, and adapted from the original novel of that title by George V. Higgins, we got the first clip from the film earlier this month, giving us a look at Liotta’s character alongside Shepard and Slaine.

Killing Them Softly will be released on 21st September in the UK and US by The Weinstein Company, and that date (along with TWC’s fondness of award winners) could well set it up for one of a handful of films we’re already expecting to be candidates for the awards season early next year.

For now, the brilliant first teaser poster for your viewing pleasure, which you can click to enlarge.
