There has been talk of bringing 24 to the big screen for a number of years, but following the recent 12-part Live Another Day, rumour has it that the plan is once again for Jack Bauer’s story to continue in a movie.

24 is a show which it’s not hard to imagine working just as well in multiplexes as on television, but there are plenty of other TV shows which we believe could and should be either turned into a movie or continued as one. Some of these have ended, while others are ongoing, but each is well-suited to the big screen.

Of course, for the TV shows listed here which have ended, be warned that there are some possible spoilers ahead! Check out our top t en picks below and then let us know your thoughts in the comments section.

10. Sherlock

Sherlock

Martin Freeman and Benedict Cumberbatch’s busy schedules have made Sherlock a rare treat which only comes along in short bursts every few years. While each 90-minute episode is pretty much like a movie anyway, finishing off Sherlock on the big screen in style or just turning it into a new franchise for both actors seems like it could really pay off.

While a bigger budget ultimately wouldn’t make a huge difference to the way that Sherlock is produced, it could lead to a very different type of experience, and the lack of the Guy Ritchie helmed Sherlock Holmes movies starring Robert Downey Jr. on the big screen leaves the door wide open for this version of the detective to fill the gap left in the market. Perhaps a Sherlock movie could take these two on an adventure which sees them travel all over the globe? It certainly has potential.
