Next year will see the debut of a number of five Marvel shows on Netflix. Those are Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, and an Avengers-like team-up series, The Defenders. Luke Cage is set to debut third, and while it was initially reported that all of these would debut in 2015, it’s no longer clear if that’s the case.
Regardless, Luke Cage is a character fans have been desperate to see get the live-action treatment for a number of years now, and this is far from the first attempt to do so. It’s finally happening however, meaning that we’ll all soon be able to sit back and binge watch the adventures of one of Marvel’s best characters.
Set in Hell’s Kitchen, these shows will show a different side of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, focusing instead on street level heroes who don’t battle foes like Loki, Ultron and Thanos!
Seeing how Luke Cage fits into this should be very interesting, and here you’ll find all you need to know before his Netflix debut…
10. Origin Story
Raised in Harlem, it didn’t take long for the young Luke Cage to join a street gang. However, he gives up that life when he realises the harm he’s causing his family and goes straight. His best friend Stryker however does not, and by the time they both reach adulthood, he’s leading his own gang.
Fearing for her safety, Stryker’s girlfriend breaks up with him and turns to Luke for comfort, something which leads the jealous gangster to plant drugs in his old friend’s apartment and set him up with the cops. Now behind bars, Luke ends up volunteering for an experiment similar to the one which turned Steve Rogers into Captain America.
However, a sadistic guard interferes with the controls in a bid to kill the wrongly accused convict, and it’s this which turns Luke Cage into the superhero known as Power Man…if you’re willing to pay that is.
