Next year will see the debut of a number of five Marvel shows on Netflix. Those are Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, and an Avengers-like team-up series, The Defenders. It’s believed that Jessica Jones will follow Daredevil, and while the name likely isn’t all that familiar to you, you should still be very excited.
Jessica Jones is something of an oddity, retconned into the Marvel Universe during 2001 by Brian Michael Bendis in the critically acclaimed adult series, Alias. It was there that we learned she was a former superhero who had given up that life after numerous failure to become a private investigator.
Set in Hell’s Kitchen, these shows will show a different side of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, focusing instead on street level heroes who don’t battle foes like Loki, Ultron and Thanos! Jessica’s series in particular promises something new and original, and should be unlike anything we’ve seen from Marvel so far.
Haley Atwell’s Peggy Carter will be the first female character to take the lead in one of Marvel’s small screen project, but Jessica Jones will be the first superhero to do so! Here, we take you through everything you need to know about this fascinating character and what we know about both casting and the plan for her series!
Jessica then adopted the name “Jewel” and tried to be a superhero with little success, only managing to stop a supervillain when she inadvertently landed on him as he was attempting to rob a laundromat.
Though like most heroes she had the best of intentions, it was a short and unremarkable career which unfortunately took a much darker turn when she encountered a villain known as The Purple Man, something which changed her forever.
