8. The Punisher

Punisher

What’s so risky and/or controversial about The Punisher? Well, considering the fact that each of his movies have been a complete failure (both tried too hard to be either serious or went way over the top with silly violence), it’s obvious that another movie starring the vigilante would be a hard sell.

The rights to Frank Castle are now back at Marvel Studios, and their family friendly comic book movies wouldn’t exactly make for a great fit with The Punisher. A PG-13 Punisher movie is possible, and if handled the right way, it could work. Unfortunately, Marvel don’t seem too interested in rebooting failed properties.

Daredevil was spectacularly screwed up by Fox in 2003 and Marvel are now giving the character a series on Netflix rather than his own movie, so would they risk trying to retool a character who has failed to connect with audience time and time again? Perhaps then they would be better off bringing The Punisher to the small screen as well, alongside others they’ve regained like Ghost Rider and Blade.
